Method: wholesale is the Dept of Consumer Affairs all-India average (fcainfoweb DBprices_W, State Civil Supplies Depts), quoted per 100 kg and shown here per kg (milk per litre). Retail is the same department's daily survey via our CPI mirror (Chennai or South zone, as selected above). Retail back-period cells are that month's observed average; wholesale back-period cells are DCA's own back-period quotes. The wholesale series accumulates one fresh quote per day from 22 Sep 2026; the two 2024-2025 points are DCA's own year-back quotes, not a full history.
What it actually costs in a shop
retail shelf, captured dailyMethod: shelf prices are captured daily from a guest browse of the retailer's Chennai (T Nagar) store - what a shopper in Chennai actually sees today, pack price and MRP as listed. The median is the shelf median across every matching brand and pack returned for the product (search-result chaff like promoted snacks is excluded by name match), normalized per kg (milk and ghee per litre); it is not one specific SKU and not our CPI survey price. The wholesale card is the Dept of Consumer Affairs all-India average for the same day, shown for the spread only - the two never mix into one price. History accumulates one capture per day from 22 Sep 2026.
